Man Shocked After Realizing His TV Show Tribute Tattoo Has An Unexpected Meaning

Realizing your tattoo has a completely different meaning than what you intended is probably one of the worst surprises you can get.

That’s exactly what happened to one man who decided to permanently ink his love for a TV show onto his skin, only to later find out that the tattoo actually had an entirely different—and much more suggestive—interpretation.

The man shared his story on Reddit, explaining that he’s a huge fan of Psych, the comedy-drama series that aired between 2006 and 2014.

The show followed the adventures of Shawn Spencer, played by James Roday Rodriguez, a detective who convinces everyone he has psychic abilities.

One of the show’s quirks was the frequent appearance of pineapples, a joke that started when Roday improvised a scene involving the fruit in the pilot episode.

From there, pineapples became an inside joke that appeared in nearly every episode.

Dulé Hill, who played Gus in the series, later explained that the moment highlighted Roday’s ability to work with whatever was around him.

Over time, this small joke turned into a beloved symbol for Psych fans.

Given the connection, it makes sense why a devoted fan would choose a pineapple as part of their tattoo tribute to the show.

Unfortunately, this particular fan didn’t realize that a pineapple—especially an upside-down one—has another meaning entirely. It’s widely recognized as a symbol of the swinging lifestyle.

In some circles, displaying a pineapple outside your home signals that a swingers’ party is happening inside.

The Redditor’s tattoo not only featured a pineapple but also included the phrase I know you know, which, in hindsight, only added to the unintended interpretation.

Concerned about how others might perceive his ink, he turned to Reddit for advice on how to cover it up.

He wrote: “Long story short, it’s a Psych reference that I just love, but more than that it’s 100% a swinger thing (Oop).”

“Didn’t realize it at the time, and my heart goes out to swingers, but sadly I’m not part of the lifestyle. Any help? Thinking of keeping the pineapple, but the words just need to go unfortunately.”

Reddit users were quick to offer suggestions—some of them helpful, others just hilarious. One person suggested a simple fix: “Add ‘that I am not a swinger’ at the bottom.”

Another commenter had a different idea, saying: “Honestly, just put the word Psych! next to it. It will show you are a fan of the show and any swingers checking out your calf will just think they got punked.”

Many agreed that the phrase I know you know made the situation even worse, with one user noting: “The quote makes it so much worse.”

The original poster later returned with an update, sharing: “It’s me, the OP. Thank you fellow Psych-O’s I will not be covering it up. Cmon son.”

If you were in his shoes, would you cover it up or keep it?
