Netflix Viewers Outraged Over New Drama Series With Fully Erect Penis Scen

A recent Netflix mini-series has sparked quite a bit of controversy over a scene that includes a fully erect penis.

The show, “A Man in Full,” is rated TV-MA, which suggests it’s intended for viewers over 17.

It does come with warnings for “sex, language, sex reference, sexual images, injury detail,” but it doesn’t specifically mention anything about what appears in its sixth and final episode.

In this particular episode, the character Raymond Peepgrass, played by Tom Pelphrey, has taken some Viagra.

He then proceeds to drop his bedsheet in front of another character, Charlie Croker, played by Jeff Daniels, revealing a very noticeable erection.

While many viewers have taken to social media to praise the mini-series, there has also been a significant amount of criticism, especially focused on the sixth episode.

Mary Killen, a columnist at the Spectator, expressed her discomfort: “I don’t want to see graphic sexual images when I’m watching a drama.

“There is too much already and it is reducing us to no better than barnyard animals. Viewers shouldn’t be forced to see pornography.

“This trend will end in tears as it’s depressing, unmysterious and taking away some of life’s magic.”

Jen Chaney from Vulture captured the range of reactions:

“Right now you are probably feeling shocked, flabbergasted, disgusted, profoundly confused, or some combination of all of these emotions. That is okay.”

Politician Alexander Stafford criticized the content’s appropriateness:

“If Netflix is serving up this sort of low-grade, pornographic rubbish, we need to give Ofcom full oversight of the streaming giant’s output as soon as possible.”

However, it’s important to note that there aren’t strict rules against showing erect penises on screen, though the UK communications regulator Ofcom does provide certain guidelines.

Ofcom’s policy states that “material unsuitable for children should not, in general, be shown before 2100 or after 0530.”

They further clarify: “Broadcasters must ensure that material broadcast after the watershed, or made available on BBC ODPS, which contains images and/or language of a strong or explicit sexual nature, but is not ‘adult sex material’ as defined in Rule 1.18 above, is justified by the context.”

Netflix, as a streaming service, operates differently from traditional broadcast TV.

Politician Sara Britcliffe pointed out, “Streaming services are available at any time of day, so watershed protection doesn’t apply.”

One Reddit user brought up a different perspective, highlighting the disparity in how male and female nudity is treated on screen.

They asked: “That explicit male nudity scene in A Man in Full was not a first. Why explicit male nudity is OK to show in TV-MA series but female not?”

A spokesperson for Netflix stated: “100 percent of [the streaming service’s] UK catalogue is certified by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).”

This shows that the content has been reviewed and classified according to established guidelines, yet the discussion about its appropriateness continues.
