Trump, who is just a few days away from turning 79, was boarding his presidential aircraft on June 8. He was joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio as they headed to Camp David in Maryland for an official visit.
As Trump made his way up the stairs, he lost his footing briefly and stumbled. But he quickly recovered, regaining his balance and continuing on as though nothing had happened. He didn’t glance back or react to the slip.
While Trump appeared to brush off the slip, social media users weren’t as forgiving. Many pointed out the irony, reminding others that Trump had once publicly mocked Biden for doing the exact same thing.
Now, two years later, it’s Trump who’s become the subject of online jokes for taking a spill on those same steps.
“I’m surprised he hasn’t replaced those stairs with a portable escalator of some kind,” one person joked on Twitter. Another chimed in with: “When do they get the wheelchair for him? Someone ask Jake Tapper to find out.”
Over on Reddit, the conversation kept going as another user wrote: “He must ‘step’ down immediately…That was the bar for stepping down for Biden, right?”
But not everyone found it funny. Some people stood up for Trump, arguing that this kind of thing could happen to anyone and wasn’t worth the fuss.
“That’s a steep climb for anyone,” said another person. “He recovered nicely. I give him an 8.5 for the recovery.”
One user on Twitter echoed the same idea and described Trump’s response to the stumble as handling it “like a champ.”
His public feud with Musk has been front and center on social media, with both figures continuing to exchange heated jabs and bold statements.
In one of the more recent twists, Musk backtracked on his earlier claims about Trump being linked to Jeffrey Epstein. He even went as far as deleting the viral tweet that had stirred up so much attention.
