During a May 23 press conference, Trump fiercely urged Apple to move iPhone manufacturing from countries like India to the United States.

Just as he declared, “I don’t want Canada making our phones,” his iPhone rang loudly from the podium.

Amid laughter from reporters, Trump quickly swiped to silence the call, saying, “It’s only a congressman.” Less than 30 seconds later, his phone rang again. He joked, “It’s a different congressman. They’re all congratulating us,” which caused another round of chuckles.

Although Apple pledged $500 billion in U.S. investments in February, only a small portion of iPhones are currently made domestically.

Experts warn that fully shifting iPhone production to the U.S. could raise consumer prices. Prices may increase to between \$1,500 and \$3,000 due to higher labor and infrastructure costs.

On Truth Social, Trump declared that all iPhones sold in the U.S. must be built domestically. He warned that if Apple does not comply, a 25% tariff would be imposed.

His announcement caused Apple shares to drop 2.6%, wiping out about \$70 billion in market value.

This pushed Apple’s valuation below the $3 trillion mark.

Trump wrote: “I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the US”.

Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said tariffs could take effect as early as the end of June.
