In a revelation sure to astonish the world of international diplomacy, it turns out that making it clear you want to take over bits of other countries makes those countries unhappy with you.
We’re only one week into Donald Trump’s second term and he’s already managed to p**s off people left, right and centre.
Ok, maybe not everyone on the right.

Anyhow, you can add pretty much all of Denmark and Greenland to the list of those unhappy with Trump’s first few days in office because the US president seems intent on acquiring the territory of Greenland for the US.
Why does Trump want Greenland?
Greenland is a self-governing territory in the Kingdom of Denmark, but Trump wants it to be American and has claimed the US needs it for security reasons.
“People don’t really know if Denmark has any legal right to it,” Trump claimed to reporters.

“But if they do, they should give it up because we need it for national security – that’s for the free world. I’m talking about protecting the free world.
“You don’t even need binoculars, you look outside you have China, ships all over the place. You have Russian ships all over the place. We’re not letting that happen.”

Trump’s fiery phone call to Denmark’s PM
There was even a ‘horrendous’ phone call between Trump and Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen that left officials in Denmark who’d been wondering how seriously to take Trump’s rhetoric ‘utterly freaked out’ as they realised the US has a ‘serious, and potentially very dangerous’ interest in acquiring Greenland.

Trump wants to buy Greenland from the Danes, and Denmark rather clearly does not want to sell up.
To make matters clear, Danish member of the European Parliament Anders Vistisen told Trump to ‘f**k off’ when addressing the situation in Greenland.
Vistisen, who represents the right-wing populist Danish People’s Party, said: “Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It’s an integrated part of our country.
“It is not for sale.

It’s rather hard to take that in any way other than it was originally intended.
But what does Greenland think about all of this?
There is an independence movement within Greenland that has the backing of their PM Múte Egede, but even if they break away from Denmark that doesn’t mean they’ll be rushing to embrace becoming US territory.

Egede said Greenland was ‘not for sale and will never be for sale’.
Trump, meanwhile, has been talking about other countries and potential ideas to incorporate them into being territories of the US.
He’s already tried renaming the Gulf of Mexico, though the rest of the world isn’t really going along with it, and has declared he is ‘taking back’ the Panama Canal.
Trump has also said he would like Canada to become the ’51st state’.

Depending on who you ask, most of us want to live for as long as possible.
And by eating just this one meal every day, could it be the answer?
Probably not, since you’ve got genes, health history, exercise, lifestyle and a heck of a lot to think about.
But the oldest family in the world swear by it, having eaten the same dish for their entire life.
The Melis siblings were once known as the world’s longest-lived family with a combined age of 818 years, and were given the Guinness World Record.
You might remember seeing them in a Netflix documentary series a couple of years back, Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones.
For those unaware, a blue zone is an area of the world where people are claimed to live longer than average and Sardinia is one of the most well-known.
What’s the meal?
Look familiar? (BBC Good Food)
So what’s the meal the Melis family munched on each day? You may want to reconsider your lunchtime options.
It is plant-based and contains foods full of vitamins. Explaining the meal, Buettner said: “Every day of their life they had the same meal for their lunch.
“A sourdough bread, a three bean minestrone soup – a chunky minestrone with garden vegetables.
“It always had three beans; a garbanzo, a pinto and a white bean.
“And then they had a small glass of red wine. I’m talking a two to three-ounce glass.
“Now this wasn’t because ‘my diet requires me to do it’.
“No, they loved it.”

Samantha Cassetty Cassetty, a New York City dietitian, told Today.com: “People who live the longest, healthiest lives tend to eat half a cup to a cup of beans daily
“It’s also noteworthy that the soup uses three types of beans and multiple vegetables.
“Research suggests that eating 30 unique plant foods per week can improve your gut diversity, a marker of a healthy gut.
“Your gut regulates health functions, like blood pressure and cholesterol, inflammation, mood, weight and nutrient absorption, so you’ll be more likely to live a longer and healthier life if you have a healthy gut.”
Why was the Melis soup recipe so healthy?
The pinto beans are packed full of nutrients, protein and fibre with zero cholesterol to be seen. Garbanzo beans are the same.
White beans are known as a ‘nutrional powerhouse’ according to Healthline, as they’re packed with fibre and protein and are a good source of micronutrients including folate, magnesium, and vitamin B6.
Where are the Melis family now?
In more recent years, members of the Melis family have passed away.
Consolata Melis died in 2015 aged 108 and was her town’s longest-surviving citizen, The Guardian reported in 2021. She was the eldest in the family of nine.
Her sister, Claudina, died in 2016 aged 103, Maria passed away at 100 and Antonio died aged 97.

The alleged contents of Donald Trump’s ‘horrendous’ chat about buying Greenland with Denmark’s PM has been revealed.
The president, who was sworn in on Monday (20 January), hasn’t wasted any time since he was reinstated as commander-in-chief.
Between signing a host of executive orders, sacking White House staff, revamping the Oval Office and reinstalling his Diet Coke button, this guy has had a seriously busy week.
Oh, and he’s ordered for the secret files on John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr’s assassinations to be declassified too.
As I’m sure you can gather, Trump‘s had a lot on his plate at the minute – however, he apparently still found the time to give Mette Frederiksen an earbashing last week.
The 78-year-old reportedly had a heated 45-minute conversation with the Danish leader, who has been in office since June 2019, to discuss the prospect of purchasing Greenland.
Before his return to the White House, Trump announced that he and his government were very interested in acquiring the self-governing country.
In fact, he described it as an ‘absolute necessity’ – and Republican lawmakers drew up a bill which will allow the 47th president to start negotiations.
In a post shared last month on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote: “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.
“Greenland is an incredible place. The people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, cherish it, from a very vicious outside World.
“MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Although officials in the nation have made it ‘very clear’ Greenland is not for sale, as we all know, Trump isn’t one to go down without a fight.
That’s why he hopped on a ‘fiery’ phone call with Frederiksen last week – which Danish officials have described as ‘horrendous’, according to the Financial Times.
Despite offering to increase Greenland-US cooperation on military bases and natural resources, Frederiksen was still sent away with a flea in her ear.
What happened on Trump’s Greenland phone call?
Officials who wished to remain anonymous told the publication that Trump was fiery, aggressive and confrontational when conversing with the PM.
“He was very firm,” one unnamed source said. “It was a cold shower. Before, it was hard to take it seriously. But I do think it is serious, and potentially very dangerous.”
Another said that authorities have been left ‘utterly freaked out’ by Trump’s remarks, adding: “The intent was very clear. They want it. The Danes are now in crisis mode.”
Frederiksen previously reiterated the words of Greenland’s prime minister, Mute Egede, when discussing the possibility of Greenland being put on the market.
What has Greenland’s prime minister said?
The 47-year-old said the politician has been ‘very, very clear … there is a lot of support among the people of Greenland that Greenland is not for sale and will not be in the future’.

Egede has previously called for independence from Denmark, but he has no interest in becoming a part of the US instead.
Greenland – which is the world’s largest island and is situated in a strategically important part of the Arctic region – has a population of just 57,000 people.
But these lot apparently aren’t keen on the idea of Trump taking over either, according to politician Aaja Chemnitz.
The MP, who is a Greenlandic member of the Danish parliament, revealed that ‘most people don’t want’ his pipe dream about acquiring Greenland to come true.
“I think some people find it quite disrespectful,” Chemnitz said. “And the way it has been done, and just the fact that you’re saying that you can buy another country.”
At the start of the month, the president’s son Donald Trump Jr took a trip to Greenland weeks after his dad first shared the idea about taking it over.
Trump’s oldest child said he was enjoying a ‘personal day-trip’ and that he didn’t have any meetings planned with government officials.
He first floated the idea about buying the island during his first term in office.
LADbible has contacted Trump’s representatives for comment.
