People online are starting to call themselves berrisual. The label has been showing up more often on Reddit, Tumblr, and other LGBTQ spaces where people talk about their identity and share what feels right for them.
On Reddit, the term has been introduced with both humor and pride. One user joked about what a berrisual flag as a person might look like while others said it felt good to finally have a label that matched their experience.
Several people said the word helped them when bi, pan, or omni did not feel quite right. One poster wrote: “Now I don’t have to pick because berri fits like a glove.”
On other platforms, the definition has been expanded. Urban Dictionary describes a berrisual as someone usually attracted to women, feminine, and androgynous genders but only rarely attracted to men. Tumblr users explained it the same way, saying attraction to men is possible but less frequent.
The idea has already raised questions on LGBTQ forums. Some wondered if berrisuals can date men, but community members were clear that of course they can. One person said: “Berrisuality is about attraction to all genders… you can always date a man.”
Microlabels like berrisual give people words that feel more precise. It lets someone explain that they are open to attraction to anyone but mostly feel drawn toward women and nonbinary people without repeating the explanation every time.
The term is sometimes also called Laurian. There is even a male counterpart that has been described as almondsexual. Even if niche now, berrisual shows how people continue to look for language that feels exact and honest when talking about attraction.
